Well-known architect of the Baht 110 million refurbishment is none other than Mr Chantaka Puranananda of Pure Design Concepts Co., Ltd. Sala Rim Naam’s new interior design depicts a magnificent palatial atmosphere with its etched glass panel pattern work derived from an antique Thai scripture cabinet and the chandeliers based on reversed ceremonial parasols which are made of Thai silk and woven in with actual gold threads by a specialist weaver, who also created the various silk fabrics out of jacquard. Thai motifs adorn the wall panels, curtains and various ikats and mudmee, which are used for the upholstery and the traditional triangle cushions.
Mr Kurt Wachtveitl, General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok, said of the renovations, “The complete transformation of the Sala Rim Naam and the addition of the Sala Rim Naam Lounge brings our fine dining concept up to par with our other restaurants such as Le Normandie, Lord Jim’s, and the recently renovated China House. This also symbolises the entire restoration of The Oriental’s facilities over the past seven years, enhancing the hotel’s legendary service standards and maintaining its place at the forefront of the hospitality industry.”
Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok’s Executive Thai Chef Vichit Mukura’s authentic Thai cuisine menu at the Sala Rim Naam includes a vast array of sumptuous Thai dishes and live stations for its lunch buffet, including traditional Thai favourites such as Naam PrigMakham (“Dip with Tamarind and Minced Chicken”), Yaam Nuea Poo Gub Mamuang (“Spiced Green Mango Salad with Crab Meat”), Gai Hor Bai Toey (“Deep Fried Honeyed Chicken in Pandanus Leaf” ), and Poo Phad Naam Prig Pow (“Stir Fried Sea Crab with Chilli Jam and Basil Leaves” ) and a most delectable set menu and Chef’s Recommendations and a family style menu are also available in the evenings.
Served at the Sala Rim Naam Lounge are such delectable snacks as “Pan-fried Scallops Flavored with Chilli Sauce and Black Pepper Sauce Wrapped in Rice Flour Sheet”, “Herbed Minced Chicken and Peanut Ball with Fluffy Rice Grains”, and sweet snacks such as “Sweetened Silky Egg Yolk Threads”, and “Petit Rice Flour Rolls with Coconut and Sesame Sugar”.
